Throughout his prolific career, Big Joe Burrell (1924-2005) inspired countless musicians and embodied the heart and soul of Burlington’s love affair with great music. Celebrate his extraordinary spirit and artistic legacy with these stellar performances.

Featuring some of the most creative young musicians from Montreal and Vermont, the Parker Shper Quintet’s exciting and eclectic compositions are inspired by many different 20th century artists. Today’s performance will include a brand-new suite to be premiered at the Discover Jazz Festival. Trio Gusto & Mike Martin transport listeners to 1930’s Paris, combining hot club swing, gypsy waltzes and traditional French songs. Filled with mainstays of the Vermont jazz scene, The Peterman Skea Quintet plays modern jazz with a twist as it emphasizes melody and mood, while blending and distinguishing each of the five instruments. Back by popular demand are the Moss Point High School Jazz All-Stars from Burlington’s sister city of Moss Point, Mississippi. They are celebrating their third year at Discover Jazz and it is an honor to have them performing several times throughout the Festival.
