“[Jennifer Hartswick is one of the most refreshing new voices of the twenty first century”

Discover Jazz is thrilled to present the gleaming, soulful Jennifer Hartswick in the closing performance of the 2009 Festival. The native Vermonter, skilled trumpeter and versatile vocalist has been enthralling audiences since her seven-year tour with Trey Anastasio led her to share the stage with legends like Carlos Santana, Paul Simon and Herbie Hancock. From jazz standards to gospel, funk, pop and R&B, she is a captivating and evocative performer who is graceful, powerful and emotive in any musical terrain. Nominated Best Female Vocalist at the 2008 Chicago Music Awards, Jennifer performs regularly with jazz, gospel and rock ensembles in the Chicago area, and her quintet has been featured several times at the prestigious Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City. She is featured on Putamayo’s latest release, Women of Jazz, alongside artists Melody Gardot and Madeleine Peyroux. Her latest album, True, released in 2007 on Rubber Jungle Records, is a fresh, lithe collection of lesser-heard jazz standards rendered anew through Hartswick’s smooth, mellow tones and up-tempo swing.
