Trio 3 freely takes flights of fancy from ragtime to no-time, fiery ostinatos to slow blues and modal vamps, mixing original compositions with avant-garde, traditional jazz, blues, bebop and more. This all-star trio of Oliver Lake (alto sax), Reggie Workman (bass), and Andrew Cyrille (drums) reunited several years ago, and has since been amazing audiences with their uncanny communication onstage. Deeply rooted in tradition, Trio 3 is a band without a bandleader—each member acts as one third of a unit that traverses the vocabulary of jazz. With more than 130 years of experience among them, including collaborations with many of the major jazz artists of the last 40 years, Trio 3 delivers a show that pushes the envelope without tearing it.
